You gave him everything. That is what he was after.
He just told you that he loved you, and he led you on. He probably mentioned your future together, and even marriage.
Why is Eric Clapton so roundly disliked among guitarists?
This one is easy to answer.
When he approached you, he never thought about love, because he did not love you. He only thought about how he could take from you, until you were left a dried-out husk.
These types of NPD men are a dime a dozen.
